04 December 2023, ChinaCome and pay attention to the “vegetable basket” prices. The latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs show that the national vegetable basket index was 116.43 in November, a decrease of 2.13 points from the previous month and a decrease of 10.27 points from the same period last year. Vegetable prices showed a seasonal decline.

In November, the national average wholesale price of 28 types of vegetables monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was 4.58 yuan per kilogram, a month-on-month decrease of 5.8% and a year-on-year increase of 6.5%. In terms of varieties, the month-on-month prices of 19 categories decreased and 9 categories increased. Among them, the varieties with larger declines include spinach, Chinese cabbage and lettuce.

Zhang Jing, Chief Vegetable Analyst of the Agricultural Products Market Analysis and Early Warning Team of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs: The main reason for the seasonal decline in vegetable prices is the better weather in autumn. The overall climatic conditions are suitable for the growth of vegetables. The increase in vegetable yield per unit area is large, especially for Chinese cabbage. About 20%.

According to reports, the area of vegetable fields nationwide increased by more than 1% year-on-year in November. The output of green onions, white radish and other vegetables increased rapidly. Coupled with the concentrated listing of vegetables from high-producing areas, prices fell. Experts predict that as temperatures drop and vegetable production shifts from open fields to greenhouses, planting costs will increase. In addition, with the arrival of peak consumption seasons such as New Year’s Day and Spring Festival, increased demand will cause vegetable prices to rise.

Zhang Jing, Chief Vegetable Analyst of the Agricultural Products Market Analysis and Early Warning Team of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs: In the later period, the vegetable market supply will shift to the “South-North Vegetable Transportation” stage, cross-regional transportation costs will rise, vegetable production will shift to winter mode, and Huang-Huai-Hai and Bohai-Rim facilities Vegetables are gradually increasing, and facility production costs are rising. It is expected that vegetable prices will gradually turn to a seasonal upward trend in the later period.
