Capacity Building Workshop for SMSs (Animal Science) of ICAR-KVKs under ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur

28 June 2024, Jodhpur: ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jodhpur organised a Capacity building workshop for SMSs (Animal Science) of ICAR-KVKs from Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan states from 27th to 28th June 2024 under the Chairmanship of Dr. JP Mishra, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur.

The Chief Guest, Dr. S.K. Garg, Vice-Chancellor, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, highlighted the urgent need for adaptation strategies to climate changes, such as temperature, rainfall, droughts, and floods, to sustain livestock production and productivity, particularly in the arid zone. He acknowledged deploying proven resilient practices for various animal production systems in the region by identifying the constraints for achieving resilience and by facilitating the adoption of suitable technologies based on resource endowments.

The Special Guest, Dr. RK Dhuria, Director Extension Education, RAJUVAS, Bikaner, spoke about the initiative taken for the capacity building of SMSs engaged at ICAR-KVKs for livestock development activities in field conditions that will boost the economy of livestock owners in arid region.

Dr. J.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-ATARI Jodhpur, emphasized the need for updating technologies in animal breeding, nutrition, housing, and health management to enhance effectiveness and flexibility for sustainable farmer livelihoods. He further accentuated initiating the capacity development for all the technical person working at ICAR-KVKs to update their knowledge.

Participants engaged with experts to implement modules and develop scientific livestock interventions for the farming community in adopted villages. Two field visits were arranged at the CAZRI animal feed unit and ICAR-KVK Dairy Farm.

The programme was attended by SMSs (Animal Science) of 23 ICAR-KVKs from Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan states under ICAR-ATARI-II, Jodhpur.
