ICAR-KVK, WGH celebrates World Milk Day

04 June 2024, New Delhi: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Garo Hills celebrated World Milk Day on 1st June 2024 to recognize milk as a globally important food. The day aims at raising awareness about the nutritional and health benefits of milk, its availability and affordability, and the sector’s contribution to nourishing populations. Milk is crucial for food security, nutrition, economic stability, and human development. The day was first observed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to help people recognize milk’s importance as a global food. This year the day is celebrated with the theme ‘celebrating the vital role dairy plays in delivering quality nutrition to nourish the world’.

Milk is a vital source of essential minerals and nutrients, including calcium, vitamin D, potassium, magnesium, and folates. Its high potassium content and magnesium content make it a nutritious drink. Consumption can strengthen bones and reduce heart disease risks. A 250 mL glass of milk provides 48% of a child’s daily protein need and 9% of calories

A total of 46 participants were present in the programme.
