International Potato Day Celebration

31 May 2024, Meerut: ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Regional Station, Modipuram, Meerut, celebrated International Potato Day in Collaboration with Dhanuka Agritech Limited.  The celebration was recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, marking a significant milestone in the global acknowledgment of the potato’s pivotal role in agriculture and food security.

Dr. K.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Sardar Vallabhbhai University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Dr. R.R. Burman, Assistant Director General (Agricultural Extension) ICAR, accentuated the transformative potential of agricultural extension programs in empowering farmers with technical know-how.

Dr. R.K. Singh, Head, Regional Station, Modipuram, stated that advanced seed potato production techniques have paved the way for sustainable agricultural practices.

Dr. Brajesh Singh, Director, ICAR-CPRI, Shimla, highlighted the institute’s groundbreaking contributions to the potato sector’s development.

Dr. R.G. Aggarwal, Chairman, Dhanuka Agritech Limited, spoke about the symbiotic relationship between innovation and agricultural progress.

The Council released a special issue titled “Indian Farming” during the programme to commemorate International Potato Day and its significant role in agriculture.

The event featured a one-day seminar focusing on innovation and inclusivity through two technical sessions on potato cultivation and entrepreneurship, showcasing diverse aspects followed by a panel discussion and a Q&A session.

About 200 distinguished personalities, industry experts, and stakeholders attended the programme.
