11 September 2023, Vietnam: For its contributions to the success of AGRITECHNICA ASIA Live 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Vietnam awarded IRRI, DLG (German Agricultural Society), and VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific, a certificate of recognition as event co-organizers. A special awarding ceremony was held at the Outlook and Dialogue on Vietnam Rice Industry Public-Private Partnerships event conducted in Can Tho City.
Dr. Le Quoc Thanh, Director General of the National Agricultural Extension Centre, and Dr. To Viet Chau, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department of MARD, presented the award to eight organizations, including IRRI, that contributed to the successful staging of the event. Dr. Jongsoo Shin, Asia Director of IRRI, received the award on behalf of IRRI, while Ms. Dinh Thi Kim Dung, manager of partnership engagement and project coordination of IRRI Vietnam Office, accepted the award for DLG.
With the theme “Scale appropriate mechanization for sustainable agriculture”, AGRITECHNICA ASIA Live, a 20-hectare outdoor event combining field demonstrations, exhibition, and conference program, was held in Can Tho, Vietnam on 24-26 August 2023. It attracted almost 4,000 farmers, traders, scientists, and government leaders.
A series of workshops hosted by MARD and IRRI, including the CORIGAP Science and Lessons Learned Seminars, were held during AGRITECHNICA ASIA Live forming a practical part of MARD’s strategy to promote scale-appropriate mechanization, cultivation, and product processing that support sustainability.
IRRI also participated in the exhibition showcasing not only its technologies, such as rice straw management, direct seeded rice, laser land leveling, and climate-smart mapping and adaptation planning but also the IRRI-led CGIAR Initiatives such as the Asian Mega-Deltas and Excellence in Agronomy.
